a new year

through a large tunnel of coincedence and contacts, i was able to spend my new year at the harris theatre, here in chicago, and be entertained by jon brion and his friends from spoon and wilco. i also had the amazing opportunity to be granted all access and photograph the concert. (hi david, uhm, i love you...)

i was accompanied by yancy and we did our best to fit in, have a good time, and partake in the open bar. i felt super guilty becuas ei left him alone for maybe half the show as i ran up and down aisles and through the strange back hallways of the theatre to get some shots. and, unfortunately, as the night grew on and i let more gin reside in my belly, the photos suffered.

but a good time was had by all, i assume. (and by all i mean yancy and myself, who cares about anyone else really). it was my first time seeing mr. brion, though i have heard many stories of largo and his current infatuation with chicago and of course was familiar with his work on my favourite films and with my favourite artists. but really nothing could have prepared me for what i saw live. perhaps, as some have said, it wasnt his best performance, or the audience was unruly and drunk (hey, it was new years turds) but seeing him work on that stage reminded me of exactly why i love this art of music and the possibilites that are seemingly endless.

so, it seems like this year is going to be kind of great, if the first few hours are any indication.
